If not for everyone telling me what a lovely town Bruges is and that it's a perfect weekend trip combined with Brussels, I would not have looked into it, nor would I have the faintest idea on what's so special about Bruges. \ .\ I thought it's just another charming European town with the added benefit of Belgium chocolate and waffles -- until I learned more about Bruges' Golden Age in the 12th-15th century and realised it's the birth place of the world's first stock exchange! \ .\ Imagine...Amidst the hustle bustle port and markets, merchant ships filled with luxurious wool and exotic spices, rich merchants rubbing shoulders in local taverns, glasses full of wine, big deals were done.\ .\ Bruges is more than a charming town.
